About  *       Center was founded in 1980 following the drug overdose death of
Scott Newman in 1978.

*       The Center led the way and was an early pioneer in the area of drug
prevention education, especially utilizing the media as a positive tool.

*       The Center's programs have been tailored to meet the needs of
communities, teen, parents, teachers, counselors and law enforcement.

*       Center used to host The Scott Newman Awards, an annual event in
coordination with the Emmy's that honored television shows and films that
depicted substance abuse & addiction in a realistic manner with the
intention of educating viewers.

*       In 1994 the Center founded Rowdy Ridge Camp, a special summer camp
program for mothers and children affected by drugs & violence.  The camp
continues to change lives, bring healing to families and build stronger and
more resilient children & parents.
